The Top Signs You Need a New Oil Tank

With Summer time finally here, now is the perfect time to review your Oil Tank, ready for the return of the cold weather. In this blog we go over the signs that indicate you need a new tank.

On average your Heating Oil Tank will last around 15-20 years which may seem like a long time, but the years can go by quick. With the many years brings the various weather conditions too which can take its toll on your tank. If your Oil Tank is getting close to 15 years, now is the perfect time to give it a full inspection and make sure to keep a close eye on it for the next few years.

Exterior Damage

The biggest giveaway that your tank is past it’s best is visible damage or deterioration. If your tank is covered in dents or even rust has started occurring, this could mean the clock is ticking. Cold weather is often the main cause for damage, with heavy snowfall and minus temperatures causing cracks. Any corrosion or serious damage could affect how your tank works and can even contaminate the oil too which is a large disruption, especially in the middle of Winter.

You may think leaks are easily noticeable but in your large Oil Tank they can be hard to spot. If you notice your usage is not as good as it used to be, or your Oil is running out quicker than normal, complete a full inspection of the outside of your tank. When you find the problem, patching it up may be your first priority but a quick fix will only last a short amount of time, instead take a look at having a brand-new tank installed.
